1839 ORIGINAL DEED WICKES & COMAS TO RICHARD SMYTH, KENT COUNTY MD.  This listing is for a vintage original document that comes from an assorted collection of Maryland papers that I am/and will be listing. This DEED (Indenture) is dated the sixteenth day of February in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and thirty nine, between Simon Wickes and Elizabeth Wickes (his wife) and Joseph Comas (free man of color) and Maria Comas (his wife) all of Kent County in the State of Maryland of the one part and Richard Smyth of the County and State afore said. For the sum of 0 Smyth has purchased land (unsure of the acreage, lots of script writing describing the perches/acres, and degrees of markers, etc.). Some mention of abutting property owners (John Blake another man of color; Major Smith; Robert Kennard, etc.).  The document has some typed form lines but is mostly handwritten, 3 pages, (also includes a section where the wives were asked apart from and out of the presence & hearing of their husbands if they agreed with this sale and voluntarily and without being induced to do so by fear or threat of ill usage by their husbands or by fear of their displeasure!). The deed is in very good condition as seen in photos, folds lines, paper is NOT brittle, when opened in half it measures approx. 10-1/2" BY 16", and when packed SECURELY for shipping, item weighs 11 ounces.
