Earl was Daniel Wylie Earl (1832-1921) who founded a grain and flour business in Sacramento, CA and moved into supplying mining frontier via mule train and wagon and eventually railroad. He was an original stockholder in the Central Pacific RR. Earl was the major trans-shipper all over the mining frontier from the Southwest to Idaho and Montana. Phillip Scadden (1843-?) was an English immigrant miner living in Gold Hill, Nevada in 1870 and Rosita, Colorado (silver community) in 1880. He was unmarried and illiterate according to the Census as well as unemployed in 1880.. Attached is a second document from The Southern Transportation Co. dated April 6, 1880 Carson City for "2 BX Mdse" 170 pounds 6.80 with .50 drayage or .30 Small items from the mining frontier but important for Phillip Scadden.
