    Description

    JOSEPH COE, FAMOUS HUNTER.
    The hunting certificate is addressed to Joseph Coe, a mountain man and hunter.  It was issued in Jefferson Township, Champaign County, in the state of Ohio.  It is dated on the front March 24, 1816 and on the back from when it was issued on April 26, 1816.  The document reads, "Joseph Coe a resident of Jefferson Township Champaign County produced
    the scalp of a full grown wolf
    which he has killed within thirty days last past and has proved the same according to saw and is entitled to receive for the same
    four dollars
    given under my hand the date above written... [signed] James McPherson."
