Description
U.S. Army Pay Voucher, Dec. 31, 1868 to 2nd Lt. D.L. Craft 6th Infantry. This voucher is for pay for himself and 1 colored servant.Craft enlisted in the service in 8th PA Reserves in 1861, was transferred to the Signal Corps in 1863, 2nd Lt. Signal Corps in 1863, 2nd Lt 6th Infantry 1867, 1st Lt. 6th Inf. in 1867, he was promoted to Brevet Captain for gallantry in maintaining his position under great exposure on the Appomattox Signal Tower during the siege of Petersburg. His station was deliberately cannoned by rebel batteries and made Captain by Brevet for faith in meritorious service in the Signal corps during the war. He died in 1890.
In very good condition; light wear to the edges and corners, there are three sets of holes punched in the paper.
